THE ROTATING VOICE FACILITATOR
A simple team role to create more inclusive, balanced conversations
✅ What is a Voice Facilitator?
A Voice Facilitator is a rotating role assigned during team meetings to help make sure that every voice is heard — not just the loudest or the most comfortable.
This person isn’t running the meeting. They’re creating space for contribution, encouraging quieter team members, and gently balancing airtime.
🔄 Why It Rotates
Rotating the role:
-
Builds shared responsibility for inclusive conversation
-
Gives everyone a chance to develop facilitation skills
-
Prevents the burden from falling on one person or the team leader
💡 What a Voice Facilitator Might Do
-
Notice who’s speaking the most — and who hasn’t spoken at all
-
Gently invite new voices into the discussion
-
Pause the group to ask, “Who haven’t we heard from yet?”
-
Suggest a round of quick reflections to include everyone
-
Create space before decisions to ask, “Does anyone need more clarity or context before we move forward?”
🛠️ How to Add This to Your Team Practice
1. Introduce the role
At the start of a meeting, say:
“Today, [Name] is our voice facilitator — their job is to help us stay inclusive and balanced in how we share.”
2. Rotate weekly or monthly
Let a different person take the role each time. You can rotate alphabetically, by volunteer, or randomly.
3. Make it light but intentional
It’s not about policing the group — it’s about paying attention to patterns and making space.
🧩 This Role Supports ACAMP Pillars:
-
Awareness (How are we showing up?)
-
Participation (Who’s in? Who’s out?)
-
Connection (Are we building trust through how we listen?)
